ITEM SEARCHING AND VIEWING

The IIEC web database offers an easiest way to search for your desired equipment. To find the record of an equipment, press "View Equipment" button on the left menu. In the search screen, you can type your search sentence. For example, if you want to search for a "X-ray spectrometer", you can enter "X-ray spectrometer" in the search field. Please be sure your search is specific, else if you enter "X-ray" or "Spectrometer" alone. It may give you full list of items with match to both "X-ray/spectrometer".

There are also some ways to do more advanced search, special criteria are available, such as:-

Exact phrase -- Use exact phrase will only return equipment which have the exact phrases you enter into the search box. e.g, if an equipment is called "X-RAY PHOTOELECTRON SPECTROMETER", it cannot be found if you type -"X-ray spectrometer".
Any Words -- Use this to search for records by which at least one word in the search text appears (word order is not considered, so "x-ray spectrometer" or "spectrometer x-ray" will give the same result).
All Words -- Use this to search for records by which all the words in the search text appears at least once. (word order is not considered, so "x-ray spectrometer" or "spectrometer x-ray" will give the same result).

Hints:-

Try always use specific terms on the search text to minimize the number of returned record.
Most of the fields in the equipment details view are searchable, including ItemCode, Description, Manufacturer, Brand, Model, Generic Name, Year Acquired, Year Manufactured, Fixed asset number, Disciplines, Application Areas, Accessory To and the Contact Person Name. Your search text will be matched with all the above fields.
To search for a specific contact person, type in the first and last name. Then use match "All words", the eliminate the redundancy of the appearance of same first name match and do not use initials. As the way they input the initial are different, some use dots as separator, some use space, while some use both. This may spoil your search if you omitted the dots or spaces.
All searches are case insensitive.

More than that, you can narrow down the search by specifying the Institution(s) which will include in the search result and the status of the equipment.

Also you can change the equipment list ordering by selecting the "Sort By" and "Sort Order" radio buttons.

After you have finished setting the searching criteria, hit "Search Now" will give you your search result.

The button "Show All" will show all the equipment available now and ignore all the search criteria.

Once you are in the equipment list page, you can see a brief summary of the equipment information including their Item Codes, the Institutions, Descriptions and the current item status. The list will show 20 records each time and you can use the navigation buttons at the bottom of the page to navigation through other records. "<" ">" button will take you to the previous and next 20 records respectively. While "<<" and ">>" will bring you to the first and the last record. The "Requery" button will refresh all the record and show you the most latest infomation. At bottom right corner it shows which page out of how many pages you are currently viewing.

To view more detailed information, you can click the "View" hyperlink or the "Form View" button at the top of the page. The "View Link" will take you to the specific item you choose while the "Form View" button will take you to the first item in the currently listed page.

If you are not satified with your search result. You can always hit the "Search" button to go back to the search form and redo your search.

After you go to the detail view, you can see all the details of that particular equipment. If there are photos of that equipment, you can see small photos on the right. Click on the photo will show you a larger version of that photo.

For those equipment detailed specifications, an Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) format of the document will be available. You must have the approiate plugin to view the document. If you do not, you can follow the following link to get your reader.

In the detail view, you can use the same type of navigation buttons to surf through the records. While the "<" and ">" will give you the previous and next records.

Small numbers are shown at the bottom right corner to let you know which record out of how many record you are currently at.
